Perth Mint 1oz gold bar doesnt look right

Ordered a 1oz Perth Mint gold bar from a private seller (noob move I know) and the card weight seems heavier than expected. Not sure if I'm overthinking or if I got a fake. I wasn't sure where to post this since I couldn't find the exact forum topic that fits. Would appreciate any input.

have it tested professionally with a precious metal verifier - i dont ever buy any more bars in plastic cards
the last one was a total fake
 
Both of you offer great advice. I appreciate the link to the metalytics analyzer video, that's helpful. @maxwellsilverhammer your experience with a fake bar in plastic is a cautionary tale. I'll consider getting it professionally tested, and I appreciate the heads-up.
 
Yea buying from a private seller can be tricky. Sometimes the packaging adds extra weight, so that might explain it. To be sure, try to even just have it checked at a local coin shop or get a simple test done.

I agree with this, but before you get to that, here are a few things you can do yourself to get a better idea.
like check the dimensions. so, a slight weight difference can be hard to notice, but the dimensions are a dead giveaway for fakes.
Look up the official dimensions of a 1oz Perth Mint gold bar and measure yours with a digital calliper.
then you can do a magnet test. you know tht gold is not magnetic. Get a strong neodymium magnet and see if it sticks to the bar. If it does, you have a problem

I buy my bullion from ABC Bullion. They store it for you or you take possession.
Remember, You don't OWN unless you hold it.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear mate but I've had similar scares and it's best not to buy any card bars as so many fakes. For the sake of a few dollars it's better to buy from a proper bullion dealer and cast bars are better value.
Take your purchase to a dealer asap and they can test on the spot. If fake you can report to eBay and they should be able to freeze and refund your money.
I bought a blue topaz years ago on ebay and it was plastic when it arrived. Ebay quickly froze and refunded my money. Good luck with it
