how to easily taking gold out of slab

My buddy just snagged a sovereign that's all locked up in a PCGS slab.

It's his first time buying a coin in one of these plastic slabs,

He's actually more of an air tite aficionado. So he wants to just pop it out and into a holder.

He took a quick peek online and found out that the "best" way to crack these things open is using a hammer and tongs on 'em, followed by bolt cutters and even a band saw!

Idk man, I told him that it's a bad idea.

So, has anyone here ever taking gold out of slab without going full demolition derby? Any tricks of the trade you can share?

Yup, it's doable! But you gotta go slow and steady. Don't use power tools. For this one you just need a vise and your dear old flathead screwdriver to split the seam

Yeah, I've cracked a few out without carnage, I used a bench vise and small flathead to gently pry the edges, it is way safer than bringing out the saws and bolt cutters

I once had to get a coin out of a PCGS slab, I definitely didn't want to destroy it so I used a thin plastic card and slowly worked around the edges, it took time but saved the coin perfectly

it is best tested out of a slab. sometimes my sigma cannot accurately test coins through the plastic
